July Plant Party: Summer Ikebana
About this event
Join us for a fun intro-level ikebana crash course, covering the basics of rules, tools, and aesthetics of the Sougetsu School of ikebana. If you’re unfamiliar, ikebana is literally “floral arranging” in Japanese, and the practice in Japan has existed for almost 1000 years. The style is organic, asymmetric, and sometimes manipulates natural materials. The Sougetsu school in particular was founded in the 1920s and is much more expressive, with less strict rules, more open-mindedness, and room for everyone’s personal style. You will take home a completed mini ikebana arrangement, including your very own mini kenzan to keep- also known as a “floral frog”- these small but heavy instruments are critical for ikebana design.
