On this day in 1965, Brookhouse's abuelos left Cuba as refugees. Brookhouse's first single, American Sounds, explores the double-edged sword of assimilating to a new culture - the gratitude towards the country that took you in during your time of need, the desire for a new life while carrying on the traditions you know and love, and the pride for both your old and new homes. Brookhouse aims to honor the old and the new through his mix of rock, latin jazz, and americana, while offering a warning never to forget where you came from.
Opening the show is Theocles, with his signature combination of pop, soul and folk using a loop pedal for an energetic one-man show, and Dietz and the Dilemmas, whose independent rock and roll is equal parts crooning and caterwauling.
