About The Altars Festival

The Altars Festival is a celebration of cross-cultural ancestor remembrance, music festival and art exhibition, and is part of the Altar America Project.

Through the Altar America Project participants create altars to express their culture and remember their loved ones who have passed away. This celebration brings together people from diverse backgrounds to express their cultures, cope with the trauma of loss, and forge new cultural bonds. The Altar America Project began in 2020 in Washington, DC and has taken place there and in Richmond, Virginia every November.
