We can not possibly put to words how important the Jackson Ward neighborhood is to Richmond. So we’re using historical photos from the archives of the Valentine to help tell that tale.

Join us as we display a historical retrospective of our beautiful neighborhood and get lost in the photos ranging from over a century of photographers and photo ops in this very neighborhood.

July, for us, has traditionally been a time to celebrate the non-hotdog/fireworks type of things - Puerto Rico, India, Refugees, the Nottoway Tribe, etc - This year we'll look inward at the historically black neighborhood as seen via photo time capsules from The Valentine to continue our July tradition of highlighting the vital parts of America that don't fall within the traditional historical cannon.
