Internships at Gallery5 are designed to provide professional experience to students and recent graduates interested in seeking training in an arts related field of business. Previous experience is not necessary, but certain qualities and interests are required for each position. Gallery5 can work with your school if internships are for receiving credit. The following is a list of ongoing internships available at Gallery5.
Graphic Designer:
The Graphic Designer position is designed for a student looking to gain valuable experience that will help build a portfolio and ready the intern for professional advancement in the field. Designing consists of Posters, handbills, postcards, brochures, newsletters, and fundraising packages. Candidate must have own computer with CS and be willing to created designs on a short notice. Examples of work required.
Photographer:
Gallery5 has many nightly events, consisting of art openings, music performances, theatre performances, and other social interactions. Photographers will document these events as if they were a photo journalist. This position is suited for the photographer just beginning their career that needs the valuable experience to build a portfolio and get their name out there. Our past photographers have moved on to be freelance photographers successful in their field. Candidates must have a strong eye for composition, possess own equipment (digital SLR 10mp min., flash, lenses, etc.), and night time availability. Example of work required.
Preparator:
The role of the preparator is imperative to maintaining the gallery's appearance. Duties will include installing and handling Artwork, keeping gallery clean and well lit, patching and painting walls. Requirements include knowledge and use of power tools, strong understanding of basic math, strong organizational skills, and ability to lift heavy objects.
Retail Coordinator:
Gallery5's retail store Gallowlily's showcases local craftmakers and designers, along with a unique products line. The Retail Coordinator will focus directly on maintaining store, seeking out new artists and craftmakers for store, maintaining records, keeping inventory, and help create marketing plans.
Fundraising Coordinator:
The most important part for keeping Gallery5 up and running is the fundraising. The fundraising Coordinator will help plan fundraising events, and oversee the execution of the fundraising events. Candidate must show initiative and confidence, have creative thinking skills to create new and different ideas for fundraising events, and have a strong outgoing personality to get others involved
Membership Coordinator:
Gallery5's Membership Program is the most important way to keep the community involved with Gallery5. This Internship will involve organization of program and members, seeking out new members, and keeping members involved and up-to-date with Gallery5 events. Candidate must possess strong organizational skills, outgoing personality, knowledge of Microsoft office, pc and mac.
Librarian:
Gallery5 will be opening its new community library in September. Librarians will be responsible for helping build the space, keeping books and other stock organized, keeping the library clean and tidy, and seeking book donations.
General Volunteer:
The Role of a General Volunteer is to help out with whatever needs to be done. Whether it be assisting during events, organizing and maintaining space, and handing out our promotional material. The general volunteer must be open and willing to follow through with duties necessary to running a successful gallery.
