Improv Comedy
Richmond Comedy Coalition presents:
An Evening with Matt Besser of the Upright Citizens Brigade
On May 16th, Matt Besser, founding member of NYC's Upright Citizens Brigade and current host of the Improv4Humans podcast, comes to Gallery5 for an unforgettable night of comedy brought to you by the Richmond Comedy Coalition.
At 6pm, join Besser as he leads a master class on long-form improvisation. At 9:30, he'll be taking the stage to perform his one-man show.
THE MASTER CLASS: 6 - 9pm, $15
In this combination lecture/master class, Matt Besser leads improvisers
of any experience and skill-range through scenes in order demonstrate
misunderstood strategies in performing long-form improv. The class will
cover every facet of a successful scene. From openings and initiation to
patterns and game, the lecture examines how each of these can work or
fail. Not everyone will get on stage, but many audience members will be
asked to demonstrate different skills and techniques.
THE SHOW: 9:30pm, $10
In his one-man show, Besser, who has appeared in more TV shows and
movies than one can count, and is the writer, producer and star of
Freakdance (now in theaters and on-demand), brings his unique brand of
sharp, smart, brilliant standup, characters, and monologues to the
Gallery5 stage.

The North American Cycle Courier Championships Presents:
The Red Bull Art Attack and Welcoming Party!!!
The North American Cycle Courier Championship is the premier bike messenger event on the continent. The hardest working couriers throughout U.S. will converge to socialize and face off for a chance at the title of Courier Champion. Over the years the championship has been to various major cities with each locale influencing the courses, rules and style of the competition. This year Richmond will be showcasing it’s downtown’s inclines and historic cobbled streets for the event.
On Thursday May 24th, we will host Red Bull Art Attack as the official opening event to the NACCC weekend. It's a courier style race that was created by NYC Courier, multiple North American Cycle Courier Champion & Red Bull Athlete, Austin Horse. The event challenges 30 riders to race through the city and collect dis-assembled works of photography that have been submitted by other couriers. The pieces will be later put back together and displayed that evening in Richmonds own Gallery 5.
The event will be immediately followed by the NACCC welcome party.

Live Improv Comedy
The Richmond Comedy Coalition Presents:
Richmond Famous
With Casey Longyear & Marshe Wyche
The Richmond Comedy Coalition's all-improvised monthly show series, Richmond Famous, features live and totally unscripted comedy, created on the spot, inspired by the true stories of some of RVA’s most interesting people.
The improvisers will be hearing their guests’ stories for the first time onstage and what unfolds afterwards is as much a mystery to them as it is to you, creating a show so funny you’d swear it was scripted (but you know it’s not).
*** This month, the RCC welcomes Casey Longyear and Marshe Wyche, the owners of Rumors Boutique, to the Gallery5 stage ***
ABOUT RUMORS AND OUR GUESTS
Rumors is Richmond's premiere thrift boutique, providing the south with pre-selected & pre-loved clothing for guys & girls. They buy, sell & trade clothing daily from customers, handpicking each item to ensure they offer a wide & varying selection of high quality clothing at starving artist prices.
The owners, Casey Longyear and Marshe Wyche, met in 2003 and opened Rumors' doors in 2007 without owing anyone a dime, meaning they slept on the store's floor and showered at the YMCA. Rumors opened as an independent boutique offering locally designed products, as well as exclusive international indie lines, but has since been revamped into Richmond's first thrift boutique.
In their first year they had over 400 bands play in the shop, held fundraisers for over 25 nonprofits, and were exhausted, broke and loving their lives.
Today, they are still trading daily with the diversely fashionable community of Richmond, traveling the states in search of lucky finds, spreading as much positive energy as they possibly can and, in mid-June, Rumors will be expanding and moving to a new location at 723 W. Broad Street!
